Monday Math Game - A Game of Revelation

Today’s featured game is from Shari Beck.  She has been teaching for the past 20 years.  Shari began her career as a high school teacher for 7 years, after returning to graduate school for a Master's in Math and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Math Education.  She teaches at the college level with a focus on future teachers and also works with in-service teachers in Teacher Quality Grants and reviews math assessment questions for various national projects.  Today, she shares with us a PowerPoint game called A Game of Revelation.

Grade Level:
Grades 1, 2, 3

Materials Needed:

  • computer
  • projector
  • screen or white board
How to Play the Game:

Review the Grade 2 Common Core Math Standards with a fun game known as Revelation.  It is a game within a game. Students answer questions from the Grade 2 Common Core Math Standards as a review or at the beginning of Grade 3.  As each question is answered correctly, a new piece of a picture puzzle is revealed until one team solves the puzzle correctly.

Divide students into teams.  Team 1 chooses the first question.  Slide 4 contains a side bar with letters A-O.  The letters contain links to the different questions in the game. From slide 4, click on the question letter chosen to display the question.  If the team who has chosen the question answers it correctly, click to "Return to Puzzle" and click once on the puzzle to reveal a portion of the hidden picture puzzle.  If the team answers the question incorrectly, allow the next team to answer the question (even if you have to rotate through the teams several times).  The team that answers the question correctly gets one attempt to solve the puzzle.

Shari also has a FREEBIE for you in her Teachers Pay Teachers store that focuses on developing algebraic thinking in early grade levels!  Go check it out!
