Monday Math Game - The Place Value Path Game for SMART Board

Today’s featured game is from Erin Beattie.  She has been teaching 5th grade for 13 out of her 15 years in teaching!  She created this game,  The Place Value Path Game for SMART Board, for her class and states that it’s easy to differentiate for students working with smaller (or larger) numbers than the curriculum requires!

Pssst!  Mrs Beattie is a fellow Canadian!!

Grade Level:
Grades 4, 5, 6

Materials Needed:

  • SMART board
  • or paper copy of file
How to Play the Game:

Students practice place value concepts with five digits in this easy-to-learn and fun-to-play game.  It requires students to compare and order numbers based on place value in a strategic way in order to successfully complete this cooperative game.  No winners or losers, the goal is to work together to complete the path accurately!

If working on 5-digit numbers, roll 5 dice and create a number using the digits.  Place the number somewhere on the path, between 10 000 and 70 000.  Students must place the number correctly so they don't block the next move!

This game file is easily modified to increase or decrease the number of place-value digits your students are working with.

I love games on the SMART board!  Mrs. Beattie has a FREEBIE for you in her Teachers Pay Teachers store; Multiplication Basic Facts Koosh Ball Game for SMART Board.

I've seen this one in action, and I know for a fact (pun intended!) that students LOVE it!
